You should now have the quest "Strange Things Are Afoot" in your quest
journal. Head south, and into the mines. Things in
here are a bit testy, so you'll want to make sure you have a decent
group coming with you pending on your level. These baddies in
the mines are level 23 four dots and can rip you up pretty quickly if
you're not prepared for them.
Head into the center of the mines. You're looking for
Infineum Warder Pondar. He roams around a bit, so he can be
found in several locations. Your best bet is to pick a spot
on his wandering path and just wait there for him, as he'll path by
sooner or later, and it's a lot easier to have him come to you than it
is to chase him around, getting aggro from anything and everything in
the place. You can refer to the map to the left to learn
where he wanders. He roams around the red circle

Once you find Pondar, hail him and follow his dialogue. He'll

you that he has just been promoted to work guard duty
in the area. When asked, he'll tell you that he
cannot tell you what he is guarding; for his safety and yours!
What a swell guy, with your best interests at heart. He'll
also tell you that the infineum in the mines will better everyone's
lives, but he'll not tell you why. He does, however, hint at
a runaway slave that may spill the beans. This begins the
quest: "Avoiding the Whip," in reference to avoiding the slave master's
whip lest he find out anyone talked. It's up to you to find
the runaway and learn more.

located near the entrance of the mines, on the north side.
Again, use caution whenever travelling through the mines.
There are an awful lot of creatures roaming about here, and
it would be a shame to cut the quest short on account of massive death.
On the west side of the north entrance, there are some tall infineum
formations. Hidden in there you will find Runaway Xackaria.
Hail him.
Xackaria at first will mistake you as one of the infineum guards,
coming to bring him back to slavery. You console him and
explain to him that you are not. Hail him and he'll complete
the quest "Avoiding the Whip," and give you the next quest; "Help the
Runaway."
The next quest is likely one of the toughest you've seen in Vanguard up
to this point. You'll need a full group, a good line of
communication, and maybe some soothing tones in the background to keep
your heart from jumping out of your chest. There's a fight
coming up, and it's a doozie!
