Part 1 - This quest has many sub portions. The first of which is
killing giants. Any giants will do, what you are looking for is Giant
Idols to learn the language of the giants with a quest called 'Words of
a Giant'. These are no trade, and are both Corpse and Chest loot, so
just kill what you can, they are uncommon to rare so you'll kill a
bunch of them.
(Ignore Part 2 if you plan to Enter the Cove of Decay with a friend who
has access)
Part 2 - (The Cove of Decay - Prison Break) Talk to Thana
Rumblehoof in the ruins of Varsoon, she is a centaur in one of
the jails down here. She asks you to kill prison guards to get the keys
to save them. They are quest update keys and should only take one or
two spawns of guards to get both keys you need. You then talk to her
again and give her the keys, Her and her partner will run to zone, keep
up with them and dont pass em too far. You have to run to the zone in
and then they will tell you to talk to Chieftain Kraughl in the
Thundering Steppes.
Part 2a - (The Cove of Decay - Kraughl's Request) Talk to Chieftain
Kraughl in Thundering Steppes, hes at location +91, +1385. He wants you
to kill Grinash the Viscious, Grinash spawns when you approach the
Waterfall Entrence From Antonica to Thundering Steppes. With the gnolls
and the Towers in the North Western part of Thundering Steppes. Kill
Him then return to Kraughl.
Part 2b - (The Cove of Decay - Reforming Stormsunder) Now you need to
go talk to Wiseman Orulan in the Thundering Steppes along the western
shore of Thundering Steppes at location +35, +1350. He wants you to
kill Incaulebis the Maleficent who can be found at -467, +851 and
The Banished who can be found around the Giants where Obsid is Located.
After they die he wants you to speak to Cassondra who wanders in the
Western Centaur planes between the griffins and the Giants. She has you
kill Windfeather who is a bird creature that flies along the northern
part of the western Thundering Steppes shore. After windfeather dies
return to Cassondra and then back to Orulan. You now have acccess to
the cove of Decay.
Okay now that you have access to the Cove of Decay and Speak Giant
Language, you can talk to Obsid Boulderboom who wanders around 776, -3,
+1004. He has reciently been made Un-attackable which helps alot. Obsid
wants you to find his pet bear Tarby who can be found at +508.45,
-1.18, +483.55, Near the Centaur area again. When you hail tarby some
wolves will spawn. You have to kill groups of wolves 3-4 times before
you can pick up tarby to take him back to Obsid. After you talk again
to Obsid he will give you a Cracked Stone Hand Axe. Examine the Axe to
recieve 'An Axe From the Past' quest.
First Part of Axe from the Past is to mine 10 pristine granite pieces
from wind swept stones in Thundering Steppes, these are Uncommon to
Rare quest updates that take a while to find. You must have a mining
skill of atleast 90 to Harvest in Thundering Steppes. After Talking
again with Obsid he gives you a piece of Pristine Granite. You must
then combine severed Ash (harvested from wood in Thundering Steppes) with a
Sparkling Flower (Uncommon harvest from Roots in
Thundering Steppes/Nektulos Forest), Pristine Granite, Cracked stone hand axe and
Dark Brown Coal (Purchased from your local crafting merchant). The
Recipie is level 9 required and is no Fail. This gives you the Dull
Granite Tomahawk.
You must now sharpen the Axe after again speaking to Obsid. Do this by
killing 100 skeletons in any zone. This can be done rather easily from
the Forest Ruins as there are lots of low level grouped skeletons.
Return again to Obsid. And he wants you to kill 25 skin dancer gnolls
in thundering steppes. These are not far east from Obsid but are levels
28-32 or so, You may want to bring help. This is timed and you have 60
minutes. Return to Obsid again and he will tell you to Kill the
Octogorgon in the Cove of Decay for ink. This is why we did part 2 up
there. After Octogorgon dies you get your Polished Granite Tomahawk.
