I've been charged with coming up with my ideal MMO. All sorts of interesting notions come to mind. None of which are fit to print. Okay, well that's really untrue. But it was funny in my head.
I knew the moment I was told the topic for this week what I wanted my ideal MMO to be. I've no notions so grand as mechanics or anything else. I don't have any special desires as to set up or anything else. I'm all about subject matter.
Anyone who knows me should be able to guess the next thing I'll be typing. My ideal MMO:
Firefly.
Awwww yeah.
It's the perfect story to go with a MMO, too. Two opposing "factions," a thrilling combination of tech and old west, and Nathan Fillion... rawr. Okay probably not so much with Nathan Fillion for the game draw and all, but still... rawr.
The main story line is that our population grew too great to be supported by Earth any longer. Therefore, we've expanded out into the universe, colonizing planets and moons, and making new worlds. The main governing body is known as the Alliance, and they are opposed by the Independants.
Factions
The never ending struggle between sides. I hesitate to call it good and evil, simply because depending on what side you're on, good and evil change.
In this case, you'll get to choose to be Alliance or Independant. Kind of like Imperial or Rebel (if you're into Star Wars).
On the one hand, you'll have Alliance, the governing body, which regulates as much as they possibly can among the colonized planets.
On the other, you'll have the Independants, who fight against the rule of the Alliance and vie for the freedom to live their lives out as they wish.
Classes
Fighters - Mal, Zoe, Jayne... All fighters. You get to wave around guns and punch people, and in some cases a sword! Or if you're Jayne, grenades. I'd probably classify River here as well and have her other abilities be sub-abilities one can gain over time, rather than make a whole separate class...
Mechanics - One word here. Kaylee. Yeah.
Pilots - Yep. You can be Wash.
Shepards - Because every ship should have a Book... with the hair and the mystery. Gotta love it.
Doctors - Because what ship would be complete without Simon?
Companions - Cause who wouldn't want to be all glamorous and lovely and Inara like? Besides, there could be a really cool subclass of assassin attached to that. * nod *
And of course, on the Alliance side there'd be comparable classes including Operatives.
Ships vs Planets
You'll be able to choose, of course, from which you wish to operate. You'll also be able to join a ship for a while to get to another planet.
Combat
There will have to be PvP, for obvious reasons. The conflict between Alliance and Independant makes it necessary. Then there will be the usual hazards; bandits, fearsome animals, Reavers! Because a Firefly MMO wouldn't be complete without Reavers!
I'm sure there's lots more that I'm missing, but you get the general idea. Instead of sitting around, being a geek, and tossing back and forth Firefly quotes with friends, while playing EQ2; I could be sitting around, being a geek, and tossing back and forth Firefly quotes with friends, while playing Firefly! * swoon * Heaven is...
