My Treasure Chest Is Gone!

by Gypsy

Last Week: style="font-style: italic;"> With my newly acquired knowledge of how
to play WoW, I set out with a new Nafakia, with better hair, and
determination to not make the same mistakes twice. We’ll just have to
see how well that plan works out.

I must admit I didn’t have a very good week of playing WoW. While this
disappoints me, I am still anxious to play Lord of the Rings Online
(LotRO). I suppose every player has their moments when they are
disappointed with their performance in a game and this is mine.

I made Dolanaar my home and found several quests ready for my choosing.
I immediately sought out the Druid trainer but found I couldn’t train
yet. So it was time to level up! I chose a few quests that would
require me to defeat several enemies and strode out with my newly
acquired staff in hand.

I ran into most of my problems north of Starbreeze Village where an
odd-looking population of Gnarlpine’s was waiting to feast on me. I had
to get a dreamcatcher with an emerald in it. That was it. Alas, the
Gnarlpine’s had had someone try this before. If one sees you and
attacks you, any others nearby will join the fight. Their damn shovels
were proving to be too good for my staff. So I decided to go after
other creatures for a while. Finally, I reached level 8. Now those
nasty Gnarlpine’s were no match for the great Nafakia!

I barreled through Starbreeze Village, filling the skies with dangerous
spells as I went. I was victorious! I grabbed the dreamcatcher and
headed back to Dolanaar to receive my reward. I climbed to the top of
the tallest building and handed over my find. And of course, the
emerald is missing! Why didn’t I see that one coming from a mile away?

hspace="5" vspace="5">I left for Starbreeze Village once more to
find the thief that held my employers precious jewel. Not to my
surprise, my target was another Gnarlpine; a much bigger and stronger
Gnarlpine that was heavily guarded by Warriors and Mystic’s. To my
glee, there was a treasure chest ripe for the picking not too far from
the beast.

I set my sights on the treasure chest and vowed to not leave until I
got what was inside. One problem, the Gnarlpine’s were everywhere and
every time I went near the chest and started to open it Mystics would
attack me until Warriors would arrive. The chest seemed unattainable.
Death was my reward, and I died dramatically enough times to win a
Grammy.

I did not give up. Each time I died I tried again. Each one of my plans
of attack was destroyed when new Gnarlpines spawned. After returning to
the drawing board, I finally formulated a plan that sounded efficient:
I would get a Gnarlpine’s attention and draw it away from the others. I
started at an angle and went in for the first running kill. I took out
as many Mystics and Warriors as I could and was only five away from
reaching my goal. It was too good to be true. As I was being pursued by
two Mystics I saw a level 7 character being followed by a level 27
Hunter with a pet. Then it happened. They were power leveling and all
my hard work was suddenly rendered useless to me. I was fighting as
fast as I could (which isn’t easy with auto attack) as they made their
way through the remaining beasts toward my treasure chest. While level
27 was fighting with his pet, level 7 opened the chest. Then they were
gone. My treasure chest was gone.

Frustration consumed me as my corpse laid on the ground near a place
that used to house my treasure. Now I had to wait for it to appear
again. I had been stooped! Grinding my teeth, I headed as a Wisp
towards my corpse. I needed to return to Dolanaar to repair my
equipment and sell all the src="http://lotro.tentonhammer.com/files/gallery/albums/album02/nafakia_realclose.jpg"

items I picked up during my hour of fighting for the treasure. I
decided I would just go after the beast that had the jewel and give up
on the treasure chest.

I took him down with ease (after all I had leveled up twice). With the
emerald in hand I was going to head back and just be happy for all the
loot I got until I saw my chance. Another elf around level6 was
attempting to obtain the treasure. He wasn’t dying and looked tough. He
attempted a few of the same maneuvers I did. For a few moments evil
took me over. While he was fighting off the Mystics defending the
chest, I swooped in and opened it. It was beautiful! It was full of
potions and mushrooms and all sorts of handy tools that will make my
journeys easier. Was it evil? It certainly felt like it when I saw him
fall to his death by the hands of two Mystics and a Warrior. From that
moment on, I cast healing and protection spells on every player I came
across to try and regain my self-worth.

Call it Karma or what goes around comes around but I did get my
come-uppance. I was ambushed by one saber, two Mystics and a Warrior.
Yes, they defeated me with ease and I watched the player I cheated pass
past my body, stop and stare then wander away. I think I’ll call it
Karma.
