Poisons and Potions Basics by Okooo
Many of the effects numbers below are based on the potion user's level. These numbers represent effects on a level 28, this guide is under construction and will be revised as we level up and bugs continue to be worked out of the poison/potion system in EQ2.

Potions
All potions use the skill magic affinity, this skill is based off of your level, take your level and multiply it by 5, that is your magic affinity skill, With potions they come in 10 level intervals. Such that:

Poisoning your blade is much like casting a spell. The poison "cast" is visible in your maintained spells window for either 12 hours or 100 procs (successful applications of the poison to the target). If a poison is gray to you it will not proc on a target.
Poisons can only be applied by Rogue classes and Predator classes, sorry Bards guess your not the poisoning type. All other classes can not use poisons either.
High level poisons (level 40+) seem to be bugged and will not proc. (Thanks to Katt of Oggok for this information). All poisons with a DoT do have a damage effect 4 times, once every 6 seconds. All also do initial damage from the poison, and many have an "after the DoT expires" chunk of damage as well.
Some Poisons have effects instead of damage some of these include chances to lower a mobs resistances to :
As well as a few that reduce Strength, Agility, Wisdom, and Intelligence. You also have the option of ones that will stifle or mesmerize the target.
