The Rogmul

The Rogmul

While The Lord of the Rings can only pause briefly on the precipice of the deepest delvings, where far below "the world is gnawed by nameless things," we are privileged to be able to shine a light into those dark recesses, and reveal what new horrors may be found. These words introduced the first new concept art from the MEO team in over a year. The original art (below) was highly criticized for the 'tentacles', and later the version on the right appeared to popular acclaim. The Rogmul's place in Middle-earth and the derivation of its name were given in a Developer Diary from Chris 'NobOrBob' Foster, and a little more information in a later Developer Diary from artist Jeff Murchie. So, what is the Rogmul? The name is from the Sindarin for trall of the demon, and the creature itself is a minion of the Balrogs. Where we will meet it, and whether we will survive the encounter, remains to be seen.
