Neriak and the surrounding forest area of the Darklight Woods had been lost and long forgotten by most of the Norrthian inhabitants. With their recent uncovering, along with the discovery of a new race, the Arasai, we are learning of this region all over again.
The Darklight Woods is presumably a previous and cut off part of the Nektulos Forest, hidden from the world after the monumental events of the Cataclysm, so it holds the sinister ambiance of it's former parent zone. You will find many menacing creatures here, and a disturbing amount of undead, so as a new adventurer, you will want to be careful as to where you step!
Neriak, the Darklight Woods, and the Arasai were added as content for all, so no expansions or adventure packs are needed to take advantage of these new zones or the new playable race!
The Darlight Woods is a newbie zone meant as a new starting location for evil characters. As such, it is suitable for adventuring classes 0-20. If you are low level, good aligned character and make your way here, be forewarned that the guards will be hostile towards you!
There are more quests in this zone than any newb character might want. You can easily level from 0-15 on just questing alone, and never do all the quests in this zone.
Rather than listing all of these trivial quests (which again, are numerous. So far I've counted over 80.), I thought I'd list where to find the quests for each level range.
Levels 0-5: Starting out at Hate's Envy you will find a couple of quest givers near the gate where you spawn. Check around the town as well as there are a few other quest givers in the area.
Levels 6-10: Moving on from Hate's Envy, you'll end up at T'Vatar's Post. Here you will find a heaping handful of quest givers for several series of quests.
Levels 11-15: The next bulk of quests will come from the Wanderlust Fair. Remember that most of the quests come from the same NPCs and you won't be offered more quests until you complete the ones that you were given.
Level 16-20: There aren't a huge amount of quests for this range, but I find several from inside the Shadow Oak.
There are other quest givers throughout the zone, so keep an eye out for those NPCs with feathers!
If aren't much into the questing scene, although I always recommend it because it IS the best way to level, then these are the best spots to grind out the levels.
Levels 0-5: Stick around the areas just outside of Hate's Envy, the area inside the Sablevien mines is a great spot. I also liked the untamed spirits around the Wellspring of Nightmares and the fallen rangers near the bridge to Neriak.
Levels 6-10: Around T'Vatar's Outpost, you will find a variety of undead, bears cubs, and down by the water, bats, snakes, and razormaw. All of these make for great soloing with tons of mobs and quick repops.
Levels 10-13: My favorite spot for this level range was the Sableflame Crater.
Levels 14-16: South of the Wanderlust Fair there is a nifty bog with lots of slugs and mushrooms that work perfectly this these levels. There are also treats and kodiaks going towards the Shadow Oak.
Levels 17-20: Down the path going towards the Tower of Bone, you'll find plenty of undead in this level range. Heading up towards level 20, you might be better off heading into Nektulos Forest.
There really isn't much in the way of heroic content in the Darklight Woods. I'd actually suggest just taking groups to pick up quests and burn through them a bit quicker. Or kill the single arrow up soloables as a group.
The bit of heroic content I did find was near the Nektulos Forest zone, and is a camp of Thexians, all about level 20ish.
I really don't think there is enough grouping content in this area and no real way to get to good grouping content like when you start in Qeynos or Freeport, so groups starting out in Darklight Woods will have to make do with the plentiful soloing content instead.
If you'd like to share your favorite found spots to hunt, or any other information relevent to this guide, please feel free to let me know!
