Thank you to all of the many people who have contributed to this guide. All of our class guides are constant works in progress, so please, if you play a monk and have anything you wish to share with our community, let me know!
The Basics
The Monk is the good aligned version of the brawler, the Bruiser being the evil version. If you'd like to play a Monk, please keep in mind that you will need to start out in our fairer cities of either Qeynos or Kelethin!
Unlike the plate wearing tanks, a Monk uses high avoidance to dodge hits rather than absorb them with high mitigation like a Berserker or a Guardian would. Because of this, Monks typically wear leather armor and aim their stats towards higher agility. Another benefit to this type of tank is that theoretically, the Monk should also be able to deal out a higher level of damage. With the right gear and excellent combat art upgrades, the Monk can put out DPS that rivals mages and scouts.
With a change of stance, Monks make a reliable tank or some nicely added DPS in any group. For those that like to fill a multitude of roles, this could very well be the class for you!
This class is definitely one of the most versatile classes in game, and is a great joy to play at any level!
