Timorous Deep is the newest starting zone for neutral races that are evil aligned and home to the recently added playable race, the Sarnak! Before the time of EverQuest II, many might remember it was the Kunarkian Ocean that held groupings of small islands. Now it is a group of 3 islands off of the continent of Kunark.
The islands are contained within one zone and you can travel freely between them via griffon or even by simply swimming between islands. Each island is has a specific level range making the early levels for those who start here fairly pain free and organized.
The lowest level island is Chrykori Island. This is where you will spawn upon character creation. The quests here take you to about level 10 before sending you to Gorowyn.
Gorowyn is Timorous Deep's major city. This is where you will find everything that you need, but getting around here can be a pain. The quests here take you to about level 15.
The highest level area is Mok Rent. This where you will likely spend your time before heading out into the older areas of Norrath. The griffon to Butcherblock Mountains from Gorowyn would be how you travel to and from Timorous Deep.
This is a starting area intended for levels 1-20. In order to progress much further than that, you'll have to head out into the world!
Butcherblock Mountains (via griffon from the Gorowyn docks)
Kylong Plains (via portal within Gorowyn)
Sinking Sands (via carpet on the Gorowyn docks)
One of the major features in the lower level zones now is the ease of soloing. The newer zones makes this easier than ever and Timorous Deep is a prime example of what EverQuest II is working towards!
The key here is questing. Grinding out levels just isn't very effective and you will always gain experience faster if you reap the rewards of questing xp. There is definitely not shortage of quests, and they do a really good job of letting you know where to go and when.
For those times you do just want to kill, kill, kill... The majority of the mobs in the lower level zones are solo mobs. In fact, all the lower level zones were changed not too long ago to remove nearly all of the heroics, so they are darned near impossible to find. This is good for the soloers and the duoers because this gives you endless opportunities!
In Chrykori, the best spots to grind are up at the Roost and around the Timeworn Pools. For Gorowyn, the pirates on the beach or the officer's camp on the Green Overlook are very nice. In Mok Rent, the gorillas and the skellies at Ruins of Verelisk.
Unfortunately, when soloing gets easier, grouping opportunities get slimmer. Anything can be done with a group, and quest sharing has really helped out with this. However, there is a definitely lack of tougher content to challenge groups in Timorous Deep, so when you're with your friends you'll more or less just be burning through solo content faster. Just remember to share on quests to maximize your xp potential!
There are a silly amount of quests in Timorous Deep. At level 15, I have completed 60 quests in TD! The best way to tackle these is to get them in groups and do masses of them at the same time. They are pretty good at keeping quests the originate from the same area, to that same area so there isn't too much running around between quests. Here are the quests we have found!
Chrykori Island. All of these quests can be found on the starting island on Chrykori beach, the village, Trythec Loft, Pyrrin Roost, and Thulwun Station.
