Netherstorm - Contested
Manaforge
Netherstorm is one of the two max level zones in the Burning Crusade. It is meant for players level 67 or higher, with many of its quests meant for level 70 characters. Netherstorm is located in the north east portion of the outlands and is made up of many broken up pieces of floating land. The zone houses several Manaforges maintained by the Blood Elves to harness the mana found in the zone. The zone is also the home of the Consortium, a group of Ethereal traders. They have created several bio domes in the area in an attempt to return the zone to its former beauty.
Biodome
The zone is absolutely full of quests, and between it and Shadowmoon Valley it is very easy to finish leveling from 68 - 70 without ever entering an instance if you do not want to. Many of the quests are chains and only appear after pre-requisites have been completed, so don't give up if there does not appear to be many at any given time. Horde and Alliance both have access to 3 flight points in the zone. One each at the various neutral cities: Area 52, The Stormspire and Cosmowrench. A complete list of quests in Nagrand can be found in our database here: TenTonHammer Quest Database Results for Netherstorm along with our Map of Netherstorm.
The Tempest Keep instance area can be found off of the eastern edge of the zone, and is accessible only to level 70 players with flying mounts. The area contains 3 5 man instances and a raid. They are The Mechanar, The Botanica, The Arcatraz and The Eye.
NOTE: Due to the heavy concentration of magical energy in the zone, Warlocks may not summon players while in the zone. This also prevents them from summoning players without mounts to the instances in the Tempest Keep.
Shadowmoon Valley is the other end game zone in the Burning Crusade and as such is really meant for players level 67-70. It is located in the south east of the outlands and is vast demon infested area. Everywhere you go in the zone you are likely to find giant demons wandering and fighting. Even the faction towns are under constant attack.
The zone houses 1 town per faction that each have flight points. For Horde it is Shadowmoon Village while the alliance has Wildhammer Stronghold. In addition each faction from Shattrath has a city here with a flight point, they are The Altar of Sha'tar for the Aldor and the Sanctum of the Stars for the Scryer.
This zone is teeming with quests, however initially it may not seem like it. Most of the quests are chains, or only open up one pre-requisite quests have been completed, and a vast many more are only available once you have reached level 70. A complete list of quests can be found in our database here: TenTonHammer Quest Database Results for Shadowmoon Valley along with our Map of Shadowmoon Valley.
The zone does not contain a world PvP objective, nor does it host any instances. It does however hold the raid instance, the Black Temple.
InstancesThe Talon King
The Sethekk Halls are one of the wings of Auchindoun in the Terokkar Forest. The Halls are the second most difficult instance in Auchindoun and and are filled with the odd birdlike creatures called the Arakkoa that look like escapees from the Dark Crystal movie.
Sethekk Halls are meant for players level 67 through 70, however if the entire group is at the low range of this you are very likely to have issues completing the instance. There are several difficult parts and the last boss requires skill and power to beat.
You can find all the quests in our WoW Database here, and a complete walk through guide here: TenTonHammer's Guide to Sethekk Halls .
Chrono Lord Deja
In this instance of the Caverns of time you get to go for another fun romp through the history of the World of Warcraft. You must travel back in time to a critical point to protect the existing time line. Protect the time line from who you ask? There is a force called the Infinite Dragonflight who is trying to corrupt the timeline and change history as we know it. Because of this Nozdormu and the Bronze Dragonflight have begun recruiting helpers to protect the time line.
In this time instance you are sent back to the Black Morass to protect Medivh in his attempt to open the Dark Portal. To do so, you must stop wave after wave of Infinite Dragonflight MOBs with little rest time in between. The instance is a completely scripted even from start to finish meant for players level 68 and above. It is commonly referred to as BM because of the fact that it takes place in the Black Morass, now called the Swamp of Sorrows.
The instance is insanely fun, and is entirely scripted. It can be completed in less than an hour, and probably within 30 minutes.
You can find all the quests in our WoW Database here, and a complete walk through guide here: TenTonHammer's Guide to The Caverns of Time: Opening the Dark Portal.
Murmur
This is the last instance in Auchindoun is the Shadow Labyrinth, and is meant for players of at least level 69. The instance is the commonly referred to as the "shadow labs" or simply "SL" and is home of the Shadow Council. The instance is locked off and until you obtain the key or a high enough lock picking skill you can not enter. The key is relatively easy to get though as it drops from the last boss in Sethekk Halls (Talon King Ikiss).
The instance houses 4 bosses that have a varied list of abilities that make every fight different. In addition it has some very difficult groups of trash MOBs that need to be dealt with just before the 2nd and 4th bosses. The last boss is a mini Ragnaros type air boss, who can be exciting for those players that never got to fight Ragnaros to see. The Shadow Labyrinth is also an excellent place to get rep with the Shattrath Lower City as every kill provides rep through honored.

The Shattered Halls are a level 70 instance located in the Hellfire Citadel in the Hellfire Peninsula. The instance is one of the first of the new end game instance in the Burning Crusade and requires a key which you must forge through a quest chain that starts with Smith Gorlunk in Shadowmoon Valley.
The instance is a significant step up in difficulty from earlier instances with even experienced players feeling challenged. There are three bosses in the instance with the final one being the legendary Kargath Bladefist himself. The thing that really defines this instance though is the tough trash MOB pulls. Many of the pulls are 6 MOBS and many will continue to respawn until the Legionnaire in each group is dead.
This is the most difficult 5 man instance in the Coilfang Reservoir in Zangarmarsh and is meant for a group of level 70 players. While the instance has three bosses like most Burning Crusade instances, it is very short and can be done fairly quickly. The map is very confused in the instance though and you can wander around for a while before you actually know where the first two bosses are. Once you know how to reach them though, many of the trash groups in the instance can be skipped.
While no key is required to enter the instance, the first two bosses must be killed before the door to the final boss, Warlord Kalithresh opens.
Mechanar is the first wing of the Tempest Keep and as such is the "easiest". Don't let that fool you though, this is one tough instance! You'll get a full part of full level 70 players with some decent gear from other instances before you set foot into the hallowed halls of Mechanar. At the end of this instance, Pathaleon the Calculator awaits adventurers who are able to get through the entire instance.
The Botanica is the second wing of the Tempest Keep and it's located somewhat north'ish of the main palace. Like the other instances in the Tempest Keep, this is a rather tough one, you'll need a full party and a good bit of wit and daring to survive the instance alive! Should you make it all the way to the end, High Botanist Freywinn awaits, with one of the more unique boss fights in the game!
The Arcatraz is the most difficult 5 man wing in the Tempest Keep in Netherstorm. It is located far above the other instance of the Tempest Keep, and has some pretty heft requirements before you can enter it. First to get into it you have to complete a quest chain that involves visits to Mechanar and Botanica, and then you need to equip yourself to be able to handle the instance itself. Many of the MOBs and the bosses are far more difficult than any you will have faced previously in a 5 man. You and your group need to work together and be almost perfect to be able to fight your way through the instance to defeat Harbinger Skyriss.
RaidsThis is a 10 man raid instance located in Deadwind Pass. It is one of the most heavily scripted instances in the World of Warcraft with many of the fights needing to be done exactly according to plan or you will fail. Karazhan itself was once the home of Medivh and contains all manner of sorcerous creatures and items. This is also one of the best places to gear up for the various raids that you will be going on, as the loot is amazing.
Magtheridons Lair is a 25 man raid located in the Hellfire Citadel in the Hellfire Peninsula. You can gain entry to is through the very bottom of the Citadel on the west side. While the instance is a very short one, it is extremely difficult until you are geared correctly. Think of this as an Onyxia style raid and you will not be far off. There are only 4 packs of MOBs to be defeated and then the Magtheridon fight. The fight starts with 5 MOBs that once engaged need to be downed in 2 minutes before Magtheridon activates. Make sure they are down and you are ready or you will be running from the graveyard for a second attempt.
This 25 man raid is located in the Blade's Edge Mountains and is very short with only two bosses. While you can enter at any level over 65, it is not recommended as even the trash can hit cloth wearers for over 8k! There are very few trash MOBs though and two bosses, The High King Maulgar and Gruul the Dragonkiller. Make sure everyone knows their role in this raid or what should be a fast run through can turn into a night of pain.
The last instance in the Coilfang Reservoir is this 25 man raid, which houses five bosses. To even get into this raid you need to be attuned by defeating Nightbane (in Karazhan), Gruul (in Gruul's Lair) and complete the Slave Pens in heroic mode. After all that you will likely still need to run more instances on heroic to gear up to the level required to handle the final boss Lady Vashj.
The current last instance in the Caverns of Time is this 25 man raid which takes place in Hyjal. Hyjal is an area located southwest of Winterspring and east of Felwood. It is currently not open in the game other than visiting it in the past through the Caverns of time. In this instance you get to help such legendary characters as Malfurion, Tyrande, Thrall and Jaina Proudmoore in defending the world tree from Archimonde. To access the zone you must defeat the two previous COT instances and be geared to survive the fight. Notice how I said "current last instance", with how cool all of these instances are, I am really hoping Blizzard adds more.
The main palace of the Tempest Keep houses this 25 man raid. As is typical of all the end game instance you must become attuned to this instance. In this case it requires runs through The Shattered Halls, Shadow Labyrinth, and Arcatraz all in Heroic mode, and then to kill Magtheridon, before you can enter the raid. Once you get into The Eye you have to fight through 3 bosses before facing down Kael'thas Sunstrider.
As you can see above, many of the raids require attunement quests to be completed before you can enter. For more details on the quests required check out our Attunement Guide.Quick Reference: Zone Level Chart | Instance Level Chart
