Duh. Because he's a SOCK PUPPET. You sickos!
EverQuest. Sort of sums up the general point of the game, doesn't it? So naturally, one would assume that questing makes up a good part of gameplay for most of the player base. Well, the ubiquitous "one" would be correct in my case. I love to quest. Everything from the newbie isle to heritage quests to status writs. I'll do just about any quest you can throw my way.
I've run across a few quests here and there that I singularly dislike. One of which, is the Hooluk hat quest thingie. That chain is the most evil creation ever, and I'm convinced that a dev was tiffing with the spouse the day the chain was conceived.
However, even the dreaded chain pales in comparision to the Claymore quest. I've dubbed this "The quest that never ends" and have in fact sung the song a number of times. Needless to say, the guild is thrilled with me over this. It isn't enough that I sing it in Ventrilo, but I must also type out the entire song in guild chat. Not just once, but pretty much until I'm threatened with expulsion from the guild... Which reminds me, I need to macro that.
As I'm sure many of you know, there are like eight bagillion parts to this quest. And it isn't contiguous either, oh no. No one points you towards the next quest giver, nor is there anything that hangs out in your quest journal to point you in the right direction. It's kind of like the Speak Like a Dragon quest, way back before anyone had found all the runes and done a walkthrough.
Naturally, we try to work on this as a guild and get everyone close to the same spot. I'm singularly unhelpful in this regard.
"Kiara, what part are you on?"
"Ummm... I finished the part with the scrolls and the little froggie guy?"
"And did you get the quest after that?"
"Ummm... maybe?"
Yeah. They love me so much.
The thing is, I'm kind of like a kid when it comes to this quest. My attention span is roughly equal to the life span of a gnat. I try, I really do. And someone even came out with a full walkthrough for the darned thing. I don't know why this quest loses me. It could be the lack of continuity or flow. I'm not certain.
Clearly, it's got to be something wrong with me. I've short circuited. I mean, I can run through heritage quest after heritage quest for guildies. Three a day sometimes. Ones I've run through with people a few dozen times. Yet for some odd reason, this one quest turns off my brain and makes me into a blithering idiot. (NOT A WORD!)
At any rate, we've managed to make a bit of progress on the darned thing. So I'm sure there will be another rousing course of: "This is the quest that never ends. Yes, it goes on and on my friends. Some people started running it not knowing what it was, and they'll continue running it forever just because..."
If you don't hear from me in a week, send out the national guard please... Check all the major bodies of water near Houston and then start looking by the East River.
