Blizzard Addresses Overwatch KR Account Hackers

by on Feb 14, 2017

Players on foreign servers will now have to buy a game license to play Overwatch, closing the PC Bang loophole.

Players in Korean Internet cafes could create accounts in Overwatch without purchasing a game license due to the licensing agreement unique to these PC Bangs. When some malicious players exhausted their allotment of Korean accounts, they allegedly began targeting EU and NA accounts, still without fear of bans.

That changes with a new policy beginning later this week, according to a translation posted to Reddit:

From February 17th, 2017 KST, as the Battle.net account policy changes, foreign Battle.net accounts need to have purchased the license of a game to play the game on PC Bangs. This will initially apply only to Overwatch, and Diablo III and Starcraft II will soon follow the same policy. Korean accounts will not be subject to this change.

So Korean players playing on NA / EU servers will now have to pay their own way, giving them something to lose if banned. Thanks to lomotos10 on Reddit for catching this one.
