Think twice before banning accounts in China.
The nature of virtual items just got one step closer to being defined by law-- at least in China. Shanda Interactive was forced to pay the cash value of virtual items it seized from a player in The World of Legend.
Customer service gets more expensive every day. Shanda Interactive has been forced to pay 5000 Yuan (around US$680) and apologize to a gamer for removing six virtual assets from his The World of Legend account, according to Pacific Epoch.
Even worse, the player is planning to sue the company for 150,000 Yuan (the amount he has paid in total to the game over the past 5 years - just over US$ 20,000).
This is going to go on record as the most expensive customer support case in online gaming to date.
