Dean Hall has delivered the early version of his standalone DayZ game to Steam. Expect issues if you plan to buy it.

The standalone DayZ game hit Steam Early Access today, and as is the case with all early access games, you should expect bugs, broken gameplay, and an assortment f other issues that may choke your computer’s performance. If you don’t know by now (you were obviously not paying attention), Steam’s early access program lets players purchase the game and start playing as it goes through its final stages of testing and development prior to the official launch, something that Ten Ton Hammer’s Ricoxg touched on in a recent article on the approach to modern game content distribution.

From the official Steam DayZ page:

“DayZ Early Access is your chance to experience DayZ as it evolves throughout its development process. Be aware that our Early Access offer is a representation of our core pillars, and the framework we have created around them. It is a work in progress and therefore contains a variety of bugs. We strongly advise you not to buy and play the game at this stage unless you clearly understand what Early Access means and are interested in participating in the ongoing development cycle.”

So there, you’ve been warned. Now have fun killing zombies and other players. DayZ’s early access is priced at $29.99 and allows instant access to the game as well as the official launch game. Visit the Steam DayZ page for additional game details for current content and features.
