Dev Diary Phax - Revamping the Friend's list

The first thing you will likely notice about the new Friends panel is
that the information you see for each friend now looks a lot like what
you find in the Who panel. When viewing your friends list you will see
all the relevant information about your friend: race, gender, class,
level, guild, and party status (when they are online). Looking for a
rogue? You can now sort your friends list for each of these categories.

Unlike the Who panel where you can enter a comment about yourself for
others to see, the Friends panel provides a custom comment entry where
you can describe your friend (as another characters alt, their
playstyle, anything you like). Simply select the friend you would like
to write a comment about, enter a comment into the comment text field
at the bottom of the panel, and click the update button. The comment
will now appear in the entry for the selected friend.

The basic functions of the friends list remain: you can add a friend by
entering their name in the text field at the top of the panel and
clicking the ‘Add’ button. Or you can target the player in the game
world, which will automatically fill in the text entry field with the
players name. At the bottom of the friends list are three buttons:
‘Remove’ to remove a friend from the list, ‘Invite’ to send a request
to your friend to join your party, and a new ‘Tell’ button to send a
tell to your friend.

The only information that is available for friends who are offline is
their name, and the custom note you provide. If you prefer to only see
your friends who are online there is a checkbox labeled ‘Hide Offline
Friends’. Click this and your friends who are marked as offline will be
removed from view. It is important to note that players who mark
themselves as anonymous will appear as offline in your friends list, so
if you have friends who you think are online, but they appear offline
in your friends list, they are likely anonymous!

You will also see two new buttons labeled ‘Export’ and ‘Import’. These
are intended to help you share your friends across your characters.
When logged onto a character that has a list of friends you would like
to share with your other characters you can open up the Friends UI and
click the ‘Export’ button. This will write your friends list to a local
client file called FriendsList.ini. Now, when you log onto another
character you can press the ‘Import’ button, and your friends list will
be merged with the characters list that was exported. The names of your
friends and the custom comment you write about them will both be
transferred.

List of commands:

/friend list - Displays your list of friends.

/friend add <name> - Adds <name> to your friends list.

/friend remove <name> - Removes <name> from your friends
list.

/friend clearfriends - Removes all friends from your list.

/friend export - Exports your friends list.

/friend import - Imports your last exported list.

Personally, my favorite new feature is being able to see my friend’s
class and level, which will make finding friends to fit my group faster
and easier. It is my hope that you will find the new friends list to be
a great improvement over the old one.
