Despite having exactly zero players currently signed to its League of Legends squad, European organization Elements has not sold its LCS spot. With the deadline to do so now past, Elements will compete in the 2016 EU LCS Spring Split, and will still be owned by Jacob “Maelk” Toft-Andersen.
Elements had been in talks to sell the spot to eSports organization Nevo (who previously owned a Challenger team, before selling to Gamers2), but an agreement between the two sides could not be reached before the deadline. This puts Elements in a somewhat desperate situation, as they'll need to sign five players before January 2nd.
The organization had only barely held on to its LCS spot, with a 7th place finish despite fielding veteran players such as ADC Erik “Tabzz” van Helvert, jungler Marcel “Dexter” Feldkamp, and star mid laner Henrik “Froggen” Hansen. Now, with what will a completely new roster and very little star power available, the team's future in the LCS is doubtful, to say the least.
While it's understandable that a business arrangement of this sort can be difficult to navigate, it would have seemingly behooved Elements to sell the spot, even for slightly less than they wanted. As it stands now, even having a spot to sell after the 2016 Spring Split is far from a certainty, and the Elements organization certainly has their work cut out for them.
