Everquest II to Join the Server Conslidation Party

by on Aug 04, 2015

Seemingly following in the footsteps of LOTRO, EQ2 is consolidating servers to increase server population and make the experience better for players.

Cross-realm support and server merges are coming to Everquest II. In a brief note from the developers, they're looking at bringing these features into the game in August, however no servers are listed and no cement plans have been made.

Our engineers have continued with database work that will allow not only cross-server dungeons and true cross-server battlegrounds, but also server consolidation. It's a very complicated process, but we are targeting the end of August for US Servers to start testing at the very least.

Well it seems like we'll know more details by the end of the month, at the very least, which sounds exciting. I think that server merges and cross-realm play are important to keep a game healthy as everyone pretty much says these couple of servers are the servers to roll on. One of the important things I think they've taken care of is that you'll get a title if your server is merged, meaning you won't ever forget your home.

Oh, on server merges:

Those players moving will get a title naming their original server that can be worn with pride! And we will run a vote for the servers being consolidated to choose a new name for the new server based on the recent submissions we've had. We don't know which servers yet, but that's our next task.

So it looks like they'll get a brand new server just for them, instead of locating on to someone elses server and crashing the party. Look exciting. You can read more about it here in the developer letter.
