After just announcing that Free Realms had broken the 1 million registered users mark, they now announce that this number has skyrocketed to 2 million in less than a month! Sony Online Entertainment made the announcement today along with some very interesting demographic info that shows that the game has become a stunning success with the kids and young adult market with 75% of players being under 17 and 46% under 13. Another point to the bragging rights is that Free Realms has also found appeal in the elusive female demographic claiming that 1/3 of players are girls.
In less than a month, Free Realms has captivated a core player base of tween and teen gamers, while also strongly resonating with MMO gamers, said John Smedley, president of Sony Online Entertainment. We wanted to create a game to play with our families and are excited to have hit the mark with our intended audience.
An impressive accomplishment for SOE and many expect to see the numbers rise as TV promotion and word-of-mouth continues to spread for the fun and exciting world of Free Realms.
Are the newer generation of gamers where it is at? SOE struck gold with the free-to-play magic of Free Realms so what does this mean for the days of 300k subscriptions geared towards adult gamers? Jump into the convo by clicking the link below to add your comments!
