NCsoft Blocks Chinese IPs for Lineage II and Aion

NCsoft begins blocking IPs from China for Lineage II and Aion for illicit behavior related to RMT.

NCsoft has stepped up its fight against RMT and illicit behavior in Aion and Lineage II by banning IPs from China from creating new accounts for the two MMORPGs. While this will prevent any new accounts from being created in the region, existing accounts can still continue to play. NCsoft will continue to monitor the change and may block additional IPs on a "country-by-country basis" if there appears to be prevalent RMT activity.

IP Blocking to Combat Illicit Behavior

In our ongoing efforts to combat RMT, the Aion team will begin blocking IP addresses from China from Account Creation due to high RMT traffic. In the coming days we will closely monitor the effects of this action, and may block additional IPs that have prevalent RMT activity on a country-by-country basis.

We extend our apologies to any innocent players potentially affected. Again, this applies only to Account Creation currently. Existing accounts playing from a Chinese IP address may continue to play at this time.

Please note that proxies have become an integral tool for illicit behavior in MMOs, and as a result we do target them when we undertake anti-RMT efforts. However, legitimate latency reduction services are recognized, and a proxy will not be banned unless it is confirmed to be part of unsanctioned behavior.
