Atari has come somewhat of a full circle as its founder, Nolan Bushnell, has returned to the company to join the Board of Directors along with entrepreneur Tom Virden. If you're not familiar with Bushnell, turn in your gamer badge now as you fail Gaming History 101. Bushnell founded Atari with his then partner Ted Dabney in 1972 and was instrumental in helping to mainstream the coin operated (Coin-Op) arcade games of the 1970s and 80s. After leaving the company to pursue other ventures, Atari ownership was passed around a few times. But now Bushnell has returned, and with Virden's help, the two will work to further reinforce the strategic insight of Atari and contribute actively to the company’s planning.

The Atari of today is a bit different than what it was when Bushnell departed. Atari is now mostly a publisher that has had its share of problems in the last few years. Having an industry vet such as Bushnell join the team could be a much needed positive shot in the arm for Atari.
