Otherland Developer RealU Hit with Layoffs

The future of Otherland is uncertain as RealU confirms that most of its developer staff has been laid off.

If you were one of the hopeful waiting to see the Tad Williams novel-inspired MMOG Otherland, there’s some bad news for you today. Developer RealU has confirmed that most of its development staff has been laid off. Unfortunately, RealU is a subsidiary of German publisher dtp, which is currently in insolvency.

As for the Otherland game, the post indicates that gamigo is holding on to exclusive publishing rights for EU and NA and looking into possible opportunities to finish the title at another location.

As always, our best wishes go out to those affected by the layoffs.
