Patreon Content: Censoring Sound And Video In Games

by on May 05, 2015

In this Patreon exclusive content, David Piner discusses the rising trend of video game companies censoring sound and video when recording or streaming.

In the second of our Patreon exclusive content, David Pinar talks about the rise of video games limiting the sound and video of their games when users begin to record and stream. Its annoyed him enough that he's had to get his thoughts down. We've pulled out the opening extract from the article below and if you'd like to carry on reading it, head on over to our Patreon: it costs as little as $1 per month.

The automatic removal of video or sound from screen and video capturing is the antithesis to gaming, because it prevents users from sharing what they enjoy most from games. Removing sound almost makes sense for games with heavy licensing requirements, but even then - preventing users from using a feature that's fun and exciting, while users with the intent to copy are going to do so with or without a share button, is asinine.

A good example of this is Dynasty Warriors 8, which when streaming or recording doesn't include the audio as a copyright issue. The voice actors do not want to license the ability to stream or record their voices, which limits the ability for people to stream the game enjoyable, for literally no reason.
