What could cause PC games sales to drop from year to year? There could be several factors that could lead to this decline. Illegal downloading of software from the internet will probably always be the main contributor to this. However there is one aspect not a lot of people have considered into this factor as well. Widely popular Massively Multiplayer Online games.
Why? Think of it this way. As more and more MMOs get introduced into the market place and become more and more addictive, more and more people start spending less on other games. Before the MMOs became popular most people would go out, buy a game play it and once finished set it aside and go buy the next one and follow the same path. With MMOs there is no need for this. You are part of a ever changing world when playing an MMO and the game never really ends. Because of this as the player of MMOs grow and grow more and more people are no longer required to purchase games on a regular basis to keep themselves entertained.
