SOE Pulls PlanetSide 2 Implants from GU13

<p>The planned addition of Implant perks in <em>PlanetSide 2</em> goes back to the drawing board following player feedback and pay-to-win concerns.</p>

Earlier this week PlanetSide 2 Creative Director Matt Higby posted his latest community missive for Game Update 13 (GU13) tentatively scheduled to release next week. After Higby posted the new details, players chimed in with feedback and concerns about the update’s addition of Implants, a new item that can be purchased for Station Cash or Cert Points that provides perks for a limited time.

The Implants would provide various buffs or perks depending on which was slotted in a new equipment slot at the time that include Implants that offer such options as protection from enemy flash and concussion grenade effects, reduced camera shakes and flinching from enemy fire, the ability to remain undetected by enemy radar and motion detection equipment, auto spotting of enemies that damage you or that you damage, health regeneration, and several others.

Following fan feedback that voiced concerns on balance and a possible pay-to-win dilemma, SOE decided to pull (or as Matt Higby put it, yoink) the Implants from GU13 to redesign the system. Additional details on the new design of the system will be forthcoming at a later date.

If all goes as planned, GU13 should be hitting PlanetSide 2 live servers on Wednesday, July 24th, 2013. You can get a look at the implants in the video below spotted by our friends over at RPS.
