<p>Star Trek Online Art Lead Jeremy Mattson details designing the next Enterprise from an artist’s perspective.

When Cryptic Studios put out a call to Star Trek Online (STO) fans to design the next Enterprise, the players answered with an overwhelming response. After all, it’s not every day that you have the chance to have your own work immortalized in the design of the flagship of the Federation. This week STO Art Lead Jeremy Mattson has posted a new developer diary that offers a look at the contest and submissions from an artist’s perspective.

While many of the submissions were well designed and rendered, Mattson did refer to a few submissions as “penises” in the literal sense. I’m not sure I want to imagine what the warp field stream for that one looked like. But back on topic, Mattson serves up praise for the many fine submissions and details the process of bringing the concept of the winning design to life. The diary also serves up some fresh new images of the new Enterprise and what players can soon expect to see from the future flagship in STO. Head over and check it out.
