Star Trek Online gets one step closer to its free-to-play conversion and warps in some new content with Season 5: Call to Arms.

Today is patch day for Star Trek Online fans. Season 5: Call to Arms is slated for release today and Executive Producer Stephen D’Angelo touches on what this means for Tribble server with the update’s release to Holodeck.

So what is going to happen to Tribble now? Basically nothing changes in the near future. Tribble will continue to be used for testing as it is. It will stay isolated from Holodeck in terms of C-Store purchases, and won’t be wiped at this time. This will allow us to test some upcoming changes, such as the ground skills revamp. We will continue using RedShirt as the test shard for staging changes to Holodeck, just as we have been for the past two months.

Those that helped test the new content on Tribble will be eligible for some rewards that were outlined in an earlier Path to F2P dev blog.

In the meantime, subscribing players will have their accounts converted to Gold status with today’s update in preparation for the January free-to-play launch along with getting a load of new content that includes the new Duty Officer system, a new Space Skill system, a Tutorial update, the new Dilithium currency and a lot more.

Patch notes for the update are available on the Star Trek Online forums.
