Star Wars: The Old Republic Breaks EA Pre-Order Records

by on Jul 27, 2011

Star Wars: The Old Republic has set new pre-order records for EA and the publisher is taking aim at a holiday 2011 launch.

EA has released information about its first quarter fiscal results for 2012, which ended on June 30th, 2011. According to a recent press release, Star Wars: The Old Republic (SWTOR) has set a new pre-order record for the company; beating out some of the company's other big titles like Battlefield 3. While no solid launch date for SWTOR was given, the release did note that the company is targeting a holiday 2011 launch for SWTOR.

In a Gamasutra attended conference call, EA' Frank Gibeau quantified what would make the game a good vs great investment noting that the game will make profit at around a half million subs and at a million is a business that makes good money.

"And anything north of a million, as we approach a million and a half or two, starts to look like a great investment, and justifies the entire purchase price... of BioWare in a very positive way."

SWTOR is scheduled to begin beta testing in September; from there EA believes that they will be in a better position to give us a more solid release date.
