Trion Worlds User Database Breached

by on Dec 23, 2011

<p>Trion Worlds joins the ranks of the database violated just in time for the holidays.

Leave it to a few troublesome hackers to wreck the festive mood. Trion Worlds has informed RIFT and End of Nations beta players that their account database was recently breached and details that include user names, encrypted passwords, dates of birth, email addresses, billing addresses, and the first and last four digits and expiration dates of customer credit cards possibly compromised. The silver lining is that it doesn’t appear that the full credit card information was compromised, although what may have been is enough for concern.

RIFT and End of Nations beta players will be prompted to change their passwords upon their next log in as precaution. Mobile Authenticators will also need to be reconnected.

As an apology of sorts, Trion Worlds will be offering RIFT players three complimentary days of game time and a Moneybags Purse, which increases looted coin by 10%.

Trion Worlds is the latest in a growing line of online gaming companies to be violated this year that include names such as Turbine, Frogster, BioWare, Square Enix, Codemasters, Sony Online Entertainment and several others. Let’s hope that Trion Worlds is the last and the others take a cue and finally start beefing up their own security.

You can read the full briefing on the Trion Worlds website.
