If you keep tabs on The Lord of the Rings Onlines (LOTRO) official forums or various Twitter developer Q&As, you already know that Turbine has on multiple occasions vowed to support LOTRO for many years to come, even explaining that they had an option to extend the license through 2017, an option that Community Manager Rick Sapience Heaton indicated may have been exercised all the way back in July of last year.
For those that dont frequent those discussions and are a little jittery about the future of LOTRO, Heaton recently took to the forums once again to put concerns about the future of LOTRO to rest.
We have an agreement that runs through 2017, Heaton wrote on the LOTRO forums.
Heaton also debunked rumors of possible server merges, explaining that some sites had posted a pair of his responses to two different questions together, creating a bit of confusion on the subject.
"Somehow two distinct comments were merged into one by some sites. The two questions were:
Will there be server mergers? No. There are no plans to merge servers.Will players from EU servers ever be able to transfer to NA servers? Unlikely, there are significant technical issues preventing it.
If I'm being perfectly honest, there was really nothing new mentioned in the live stream that we haven't said before. Many of the questions were the same questions we're often asked with the same answers given."
So put your mind at ease. It looks as though the future of LOTRO is safe until at least 2017. The license will undoubtedly end one day, but it is not this day.
