Updated: EverQuest II Free-to-Play and Age of Discovery Launch Suffers a Setback

by on Dec 07, 2011

Sony Online Entertainment’s ambitious day of new content for EverQuest II hits a snag that requires more downtime.

Sony Online Entertainment (SOE) made a push for quite a bit of new content and changes to EverQuest II yesterday with the launch of the Freeport Reborn game update, the Age of Discovery expansion and the official start of the new free-to-play model. Unfortunately, all that new content seems to have broken something and rather than risk exposing players to broken content, SOE took the game down for overnight maintenance.

EverQuest II service is expected to return later today at roughly 10:00am PST and SOE’s Chief Technical Officer Rich Lawrence dropped by the EverQuest II forums to apologize for the downtime and give players a brief update.

Update: The EverQuest II servers and website are now available.
