Nethaera chose to answer a few questions about the WotLK beta opt in process in the official threads, and also chose to have some fun with a few of the questions.

So, say you get invited in the first few waves, do you get to stay the whole LK beta, or do you stay only for one of the phase you were invited for?

Once you're in, you're in. No one is going to come to your house, tap you on the shoulder and tell you, "It's your time." Though that would be kind of neat if we had someone that did that. :)
