Is it really cheating that you see or just bad perception? |
One of the things Book-Larsson addresses in the blog is in-game cheating and the perception of cheating. According to Book-Larsson, there are only two forms of actual cheating in APB: Reloaded – aimbots and wallhacks, both of which the team have some plans on how to deal with given that PunkBuster, the game’s anti-cheat system, seems to be one step behind the makers of these programs. This could involve changing some of the game’s code to make it harder to use certain exploits or enhancing the cheat system deterrent. Some of the new anti cheating options will be pushed out with updates 1.5.3 through 1.5.7.
Of course, not everything that players perceive to be cheating actually is. In some cases the team has discovered that some players believe others are cheating at times due to a graphical appearance that can ocurr called snapping, which happens when a player may be running one way and looking another. When they fire a shot, snapping occurs and if they are quick enough, it can look like they’re cheating when in fact they aren’t due to the visual appearance. Book-Larsson provided some other examples of perceived cheating such as "magic bullets" and plans to release video of some of them in the future to help clear up player perception.
Lastly, the team will be making some changes to the game’s Mission System to allow players more control over the types of matches that they can play without being forced into a mission that they may not want to play. Additionally, Threat Level changes are on the operating table and should be getting an overhaul soon enough.
