Pet collecting is one of World of Warcraft’s more common past times, especially when a lot of pets can just be found on fallen mobs. Today, we’re gonna look at the the world drops you can get in the Eastern Kingdoms and Kalimdor.

Eastern Kingdoms

While the whole of Azeroth was affected when Deathwing erupted into the mortal world and the levelling experience was updated, many of the world drop pets remain unchanged from the days of Vanilla WoW.

Siamese Cat

Location: Westfall

We’ve, technically, already mentioned this as it drops from Cookie the former cook and new Captain of the infamous Defias ship deep within the Deadmines. Everyone in the Alliance loves cats and this one drops from him around 15% to 24% of the time but it’s still the most efficient way for lower level players to get a cat of their own.

Green Winged Macaw

Location: Westfall

Everyone knows parrots and pirates go together like hunters and their pets. There are several macaws in game, including an epic one, but as they go the Green Winged Macaw is the easiest to get. It drops from the various Defias Pirates you’ll find littering the instance.

Black Tabby Cat

Location: Hillsbrad Foothills

Cats and humans go together like Kel’Thuzud and Mr. Bigglesworth and, fittingly, this kitty originally dropped from Dalaran mobs in Silverpine. However, since 4.0 this was changed so the pet drops in the Hillsbrad Foothills from any of the mobs there so Alliance players have just as good a chance as the Horde. Oh and if someone nearby has Stinker the Skunk, he’ll fall in love with the Black Tabby just like Pepé Le Pew. Awww.

little dino

There are loads of dinosaurs waiting for you to find them.

Dark Whelpling

Location: The Wetlands, Dustwallow Marsh, the Badlands and Burning Steppes

Everyone loves dragons and Azeroth is littered with whelplings, the tiny, sweet little baby versions. After the Cataclysm, many of the whelplings were relocated to new zones after players expressed concern that they’d no longer be able to farm them.

The Dark Whelping, spawn of the Black Dragonflight, can be found in the Wetlands, as well as in the Badlands and Burning Steppes. They drop from larger dragons and dragonkin including Ebon Whelps, Nyxondra’s Broodling and Flamescale Broodlings. The other thing about whelps is they’re super rare so prepare for a lot of grinding, this one has a drop rate of one drop per thousand, a lot lower than other whelps.

Crimson Whelpling

Location: The Wetlands

So you’re exalted with Wrymrest and adore your Red Drake, you might even have Alexstrasza’s Handmaiden. What could go with both better than the miniature Crimson Whelping? These can be looted from the corpses of any mob in the Wetlands. What are you waiting for? Get to it! This one will drop once in every eight thousand corpses. Yes, that’s a lot.

Razormaw Hatchling

Location: The Wetlands

Aw, what a cutie. This mini dinosaur is the perfect companion for every pet collector and is also a guaranteed drop! Previously, you had to find the rare spawn Razormaw Matriarch in the Wetlands. Now though, you just have to go raid her nest. Easy as that!

The Hyacinth Macaw

Location: Northern Stranglethorn and Cape of Stranglethorn

Ah yes, the Epic parrot. Before the Cataclysm, the only way to get this was to slaughter Bloodsail Buccaneers in STV. Now though, it’s a tad simpler, if not easier to get as the Macaw is a zone drop in either Stranglethorns. You just have to be insane enough to grind for it. The best way, if you must get one, is to search your AH and have a lot of gold to spare. The epic nature of this particular pet coupled with it’s low, low drop rate means a particularly high price tag.

Razzashi Hatchling

Location: Northern Stranglethorn and Cape of Stranglethorn

This little guy is a variation on the Razormaw Hatchling and is now a zone drop across the Cape of Stranglethorn and Northern Stranglethorn. Yes, if it’s red, kill it and this little dino might just drop from their cold, dead corpse. There are usually a few of these on your local AH too, if you can’t be arsed to grind for it.

Disgusting Oozeling

Location: Silithus, Un’Goro, Winterspring and the Swamp of Sorrows

The name really does said it all; this little black monstrosity is a drop from Oozing Bags which can be looted from the corpses of worms and oozelings across Azeroth in zones like Silithus, Un’Goro, Winterspring and the Swamp of Sorrows. The main talking point of this little oozling is that he has a thing for alcohol, particularly Dark Iron Beer. He’ll even burp! Lovely.

Strand Crawler

Location: Stormwind

Strand Crawlers are little crab-like creatures that you’ll come across on any sandy shore in Azeroth. This particular pet is a drop from the Bag of Shiny Things, the reward from the Fishing Dailies found in Stormwind or, for those with a higher level, in Northrend from the Bag of Fishing Treasures.

Kalimdor

Kalimdor, land of Orcs, Tauren and Night Elves has it’s own fair share of interesting pets. You just have to know where to go and what mobs to kill.

Leaping Hatchling

Location: The Barrens

This little dinosaur is a unique little creature just begging to be your companion. Also, just like, the Razormaw Hatchling, the Leaping Hatchling is a guaranteed drop. You just have to head to Takk’s Nest in the Barrens and it drops when you clear out the nest.

auction house

Remember, if you can't be bothered to farm, most world drop pets can be found on the AH for a price.

Ravasaur Hatchling

Location: Un’Goro Crater

While wandering Un’Goro, it’s well worth swinging by the nest of the Ravasaur Matriarch in the south-eastern part of the crater. Go in, kill everything and this green, slightly larger than average dinosaur will be your reward.

Darting Hatchling

Location: Dustwallow Marsh

Similarly, this last dinosaur companion used to be a rare spawn drop but now all you need to do is snuffle around Dart’s Nest in the northern part of Dustwallow Marsh. Easy peasy!

Emerald Whelpling

Location: Feralas

Travellers in Feralas will already know this land is dragon territory, once being home to a portal to the Emerald Dream and it’s twisted green dragon sentinel. The world boss might be gone (unless you do a quest chain) but the children of Ysera remain. To get this guy, just kill Noxious Whelps wherever you find them. If you’re very lucky, the Emerald Whelpling might just drop but be prepared for a long grind.

Sprite Darter Hatchling

Location: Feralas

Once a reward for completing an insanely lengthy Alliance quest chain, the Sprite Darter Hatchling is now available to everyone. All you need to do is kill everything in Feralas and you stand a chance of getting your own little faerie dragon. Awww.

Azure Whelpling

Location: Winterspring

Once upon Vanilla, Winterspring was the province of Haleh, matriarch of the Blue Flight. Getting to her used to involve climbing mountains or creeping through a dragon infested cavern. Adventurers also used to slaughter any whelps and dragonkin they came across for the chance of obtaining an Azure Whelpling. Well, the good news is you can still get one and now at least it’s a little easier. The Azure Whelpling is a zone drop and can be found in the corpse of any mob in Winterspring, if you’re patient enough to grind for it.

Whether you love dinosaurs or just want a parrot to go with your pirate outfit, there are plenty to choose from in Azeroth. Let us know which is your favourite pet or how long it took you to grind it in the comments box.
