An Interview with the Developers of Vanguard

In all the hustle and bustle of GDC, it's easy to lose track of the games that aren't "upcoming" or "on the horizon". The Ten Ton Hammer team was careful to cover all the bases, and our latest interview focuses on Vanguard: Saga of Heroes, a game that was released earlier this year. We sat down with several members of the Sigil team - Jeff Butler, April Jones, and Ryan Elam - to find out what the future holds for Vanguard and MMOs in general.

When asked what the biggest challenge the team was facing at the moment, one thing sprang to Jeff Butler's mind: Settling the game into the market. "To me, settling a game into the market means that we can look at the game and are able to compare it with what the consumer finds palatable," he said. "We know that Vanguard was always a game that was aimed at people who tended to like a more challenging experience than World of Warcraft. So without alienating the other players who chose Vanguard, we need to discover what elements of Vanguard do not sit well with those core gamers."
