I’m finally able to get my hands on a somewhat translated version of ArcheAge which is being brought over to the states by the wonderful Trion (makers of Rift, Defiance, and Trove). It has been something I’ve been excited about now for the longest time and I’m so excited to be able to finally play it.

You should be excited too and here are my top five reasons to be excited if you don’t believe me. Be sure to read the disclaimer at the bottom if you're giong to post about how the game is horrible or whatever. You can still do it, I don't mind, comment anything you want. Just sayin'

Number One: You can walk and DANCE.

Half way through this video you will notice the ability to walk and dance. Right there, game of the year.

Number Two: It’s a sandbox done right!

You can literally do about anything that you want to do in the game. Be a sea pirate, roam around, get quests from talking dogs, turn lights off, and build a house, whatever! There is so much to do in the game that honestly it’s hard to do anything, and unlike some other sandbox games it also has a vast and in-depth quest system. So if you just want to play it like a regular MMO then you can do that as well. So there is plenty to do and lots of fun to be had.

Number Three: Build Your House!

You can build your house out in the open world. In the free-to-play model of the game, from my understanding, you’ll have to have a subscription to have a house, but it’s worth it. Housing is really robust in ArcheAge and there is a lot of things to build for your house, so it’s a really cool feature. There are very few MMOs that have regular housing, so this is a kind of big deal.

You can also build castles, and then go kick those castles over. That’s one of the cool sandbox features, is that you can build all kinds of neat things.

Number Four: Sea Piracy

You can build a boat, go out into the ocean, and then sink other player’s boats. You can build a boat and be transporting bundles of supplies and other players can take you out and loot your boat. Think sort of kind of like EVE Online but more fantasy. If you want to transport a lot of goods you’ll probably want a few friends to help transport you to keep your supplies safe.

ArchAge Boats

Number Five: It’s been in development for a long time.

This isn’t a Trion exclusive; this is a game by XL Games that has been in development for a long time. Generally these games are awesome because someone else has already taken the brunt of the launch troubles, the early release woes, etc. The bugs are usually squashed in good order and what Trion mostly has to do is “westernize” the game by translating it and adjusting various mechanics to fit a more western audience.

Man, five things isn’t enough. There is the whole fact there is a continent that is blank and ready to be shaped by players who can build the towns, houses, forts, etc. There is also the fact that there is gliders that you can fly around with and all kinds of other cool stuff. I don't know, it's all sounded so good to me for the longest time.

Disclaimer: These are reasons to be excited, not specifically saying the game is awesome or anything. Big distinction there. It could be terrible, I don’t know, I don’t have enough experience. But excitement isn’t a bad thing and you should stick around on Ten Ton Hammer to have lots of fun and exciting times seeing just what this game is really all about.
