One problem that MMORPG launches tend to run into is the inability to get Collector's Edition items during the game's headstart event. At times, this can mean players will often out-level the use of some items or just not get their beneficial use until the official launch. Luckily, Rift players will have the chance to enjoy the benefit of some of their items during headstart thanks to a new solution the Trion Worlds team has come up with.

Sr. Community Manager Cindy "Abigale" Bowens recently posted the plan on the official Rift forums. Players that enter a pre-order code will gain access to the Ancient Tartagon Mount and the Bogling Wastrel pet during the headstart event, but players will still need to enter a retail key to keep the items after the headstart has ended, otherwise they'll be removed from your inventory at the end of the event. Entering the code after the items have been removed will restore them if you ordered the Collector's Edition. So enjoy your Collector's Edition mount and pet, if only for a little while.
