If there's one thing I know about MMOs, it's the fact that players burn through content. In comparison to what we have know, WoW Classic is slower, but it doesn't have tons to do (especially when players have already ran it many times before). That begs the question, what's going to happen when people reach "end game"?.

As far as I can tell, there's two options:

  1. Begin again, and release previous patches as they were released then, to recreate "launch".
  2. Create a new series of patches to tap into the classic approach.

Fundamentally, Blizzard are in an impossible position. If they attempt to "improve" WoW Classic they risk upsetting everyone who wants nothing but nostalgia. At the same time, they can't just leave it as it is: there's simply not enough content. My gut tells me that Blizzard are in a dangerous position, because a lot of WoW players will leave WoW to play classic and 30 days later they will quit and never go back to the WoW; essentially killing growth for both games.

There's no easy way out for Blizzard here, and I feel that unless they completely split development - making brand new content for WoW Classic in the vein that players want - it simply cannot work. An MMO needs content, improvements and growth; WoW Classic is entirely at odds with this because it's attempting to preserve something in a genre that's unsustainable.

What's your thoughts on what WoW Classic will do for additional content and improvements?
