Few games inspire as much passion and rivalry as EVE Online. CCP’s gem of a space sandbox has fueled some rivalries of epic proportions of the last decade that tales are still told of today. In an effort to bring some of those tales together in a singular location, CCP has launched True Stories from the First Decade of the EVE Online universe, where player stories from the first decade of the space sandbox take center stage.
Current EVE subscribers can submit their stories, which rely on a system of open debate and voting to bring the best and most popular of the stories to the top. All submissions will be preserved as part of EVE Online’s colorful history and may even serve as inspiration for future transmedia (there’s that word again) projects ranging from books, comics, TV and film from CCP or one of its partners.
“Our players have entertained EVE’s followers for ten strong years, coming up with the most unique, inventive ideas and then acting them out amongst the stars,” said Torfi Frans Olafsson, Creative Director of the EVE Universe Intellectual Property Group. “They are the backbone of this game universe and we are proud to celebrate their stories both big and small.”
The player submission process will remain available until May 1st, 2013. At that time, voting will open for a two week period to select the highest ranking story. The winning player will receive a trip to Iceland for two to visit CCP headquarters.
Have you got a story to tell? Head over to the True Stories from the First Decade website and make your submission.
CCP will be holding their annual gathering of the sold-out EVE Fanfest in Reykjavik, Iceland from April 25th-27th where they will discuss more about the first decade of EVE and the future of CCP’s library of games such as EVE, DUST 514, and the upcoming World of Darkness MMOG as well as EVE’s upcoming Odyssey expansion which you can read a bit about some of the coming changes in the latest developer blog.
