The 2 Mintues into the Future Video Competition
The 2 Minutes into the Future Video Competition
One could argue that if video killed the radio star, then the Internet surely killed the video star. While that may be true of demise of the MTV generations fascination with music videos, Im sure the YouTube generation would beg to differ. And when it comes to gaming, its hard to deny that Twitch.tv has become engrained in the pop culture of the industry to the same saturation point as the once mighty MTV back in its 1980s glory days.
While weve certainly dabbled in video over the years, weve decided its high time we embrace the warm glow of video with open arms here on Ten Ton Hammer. We have some grand plans for the format that will become apparent later this year (foreshadowing!) but decided to set things in motion in the interim.
As such, were hosting a competition to see if any of our readers have what it takes to become a Ten Ton Video Editor. The grand prize will be one month paid contract with the potential to become a regular position on our current staff. The full details and submission guidelines can be found below!
2 Minutes into the Future
Here is how things will work. Well be accepting video submissions until the end of the month (midnight on April 30th, 2013). Depending on how many videos we receive, well begin posting one or more of them daily throughout the following week, at which point well be letting our readers vote on their overall favorites. So even if youre not personally creating and submitting a video for review, you can still get involved.
Video Submission Guidelines
We dont want to hinder the creative process, but there are some basic guidelines for submissions:
1. Videos should be no longer than 2 minutes long
2. Subject matter should focus on MMOGs as directly as possible
3. Base your video on something current, or relevant to the present interests of MMO gamers
4. Submissions must not be previously published elsewhere on the web.
5. Wed prefer all video footage used be original, but depending on creative usage some segments of found / gameplay footage is acceptable.
Were mainly looking for a combination of creativity, originality, and personality. You should also be conscious of your overall presentation, whether your submission is focused on being super informative on current MMOG topics, or flat out entertaining. Otherwise, anything goes so long as your video involves relaying current news or information about the industry. So standard news reader presentation is totally cool, or you might even want to do something wacky like LARPing a top MMOG news story.
Once youve put your submission together, email your video to [email protected] with the subject line 2 Minutes into the Future. If the file size is too large to be sent directly via email, a link to a shared Dropbox or SkyDrive file (or equivalent service) is fine.
To recap, here is the timeline for the competition:
- Video submissions are being accepted through midnight on April 30th, 2013.
- The following week (May 6-10) we'll post one or more entries per day depending on how many videos we receive
- From May 10th through the 17th readers will be able to vote on their favorite videos. That same week, our editorial staff will review all submissions to select our staff faves.
From there we'll announce the community and staff picks, and determine our grand prize winner. The winner will be contacted via the email address used for the original submission, at which point we'll extend the offer to join our team for a one month, paid contract position. Following that initial month, the position will be up for review and we'll determine if it will become an ongoing, regular staff position.
Good luck to everyone, and have fun with it. We're looking forward to seeing what you come up with. In keeping with our theme for the competition announcement, to close things out here is a fan made video featuring Max Headroom set to the awesome Kraftwerk song, The Man Machine. Enjoy!
