Unusual Flowers

This quest is one of a
series of
quests that send you to the Gardens of Xia'Liu (commonly
just called "the Gardens" because no one wants to spell Xia'Liu). The
quest can be
started at level 12. It takes players all through the
Gardens, so it is best done as you go along with other quests.

Unusual Flowers
requires you to
collect the petals of 8 Red Lilies.

Garden Waters

Since a full group will likely need to go through the entirety of the
Gardens in order to loot 8 Red Lily petals each (a plant can only be
used by one player at a time), it will probably mean the group will not
complete Unusual Flowers until it has reached the spot in the Gardens
that also completes Garden Waters.

Garden Waters requires to you to collect water samples from 3 special
pagodas in the Gardens.

Weakening Barriers

The final pagoda for Garden Waters is also located near the highest
point in the Gardens, your destination for Weakening Barriers. It makes
sense to go ahead and finish Weakening Barriers when collecting the
third water sample.

Weakening Barriers requires you activate an amulet atop the highest
point in the Gardens.

Logging the Quests

Refer to the href="http://vanguard.tentonhammer.com/index.php?module=ContentExpress&func=display&ceid=785">Gardens
of Xia'Liu: Overview for information on getting to the quest
givers
and the Gardens. Warseer Mekkra in Gulkar's Encampment begins the quest
for Unusual Flowers. He hopes to learn how the Gardens and Wildgrowth
Forest are proliferating by studying samples of the Red Lily, a plant
that only grows in the Gardens. The quest dialog is below:

style="border: 2px solid ;">

Warseer Gulkar in
Gulkar's
Encampment sends you on both the Garden Waters and Weakening Barriers
quests. He wants you to collect samples of the water from the pagodas
where the Yukiona pray to see if it has magical properties that aid the
spread of the Wildgrowth Forest. While in the Gardens, he wants to
climb the highest peak and activate an amulet that will test the
mystical barrier that separates the Gardens from the land of Clan
Martok.

The dialog for both
quests is below:

Collecting the Flowers

Each section of the Gardens has one or two Red Lilies. The locations of
these have been identified in previous guides in this series. Click on
any link above to read the other walk-throughs. Basically, just be on
the lookout for the flower picture below as you make your way through
to finish Garden Waters and Weakening Barriers. if anybody int he group
still needs a Red Lily by the time you finish those two quests, retrace
your steps and collect the respawns.

href="http://vanguard.tentonhammer.com/modules.php?set_albumName=album68&id=Red_Lily&op=modload&name=Gallery&file=index&include=view_photo.php"> alt=""

style="border: 2px solid ;">

Filling the Vials

Garden Waters requires you to visit 3 pagodas: Pagoda Pool of the
Silverfox, Pagoda Pool of the Tombo, and Pagoda Pool of the Matron.

Once you have climbed the mountain path past all of the Clay Guardians
and Clay Sentinels you killed for Heart of Clay, you will enter the
Gardens proper. Head to the left wall with an
opening guarded by two golems. Check the water hole for
a Red Lily that spawns. This is for the Unusual Flowers quest.

Beware the Silverfox that roams
near the doorway. Another Silverfox and a Tombo are over at the nearby
pool of water. It is possible to pull them separately. A Red Lily also
spawns at this pool. Head up the path on the hill. You'll see the
Pagoda Pool of the Silverfox
with a pair of golems to your immediate right. A Pair of Silverfoxes
guard the edge of the pagoda.

href="http://admin.vanguard.tentonhammer.com/modules.php?set_albumName=album70&id=SilverfoxPagoda&op=modload&name=Gallery&file=index&include=view_photo.php"> alt=""
src="http://media.tentonhammer.com/vanguard/gallery/albums/album70/SilverfoxPagoda.sized.jpg"
style="border: 2px solid ; width: 600px;">

As you head to the pagoda, you'll bump into one
of the Yukiona. Once you have slain it and the golems in the pagoda,
you can collect your first water sample. Note: It is possible to
collect the sample without engaging either of the Silverfoxes if you
stay in the middle.

href="http://admin.vanguard.tentonhammer.com/modules.php?set_albumName=album70&id=Vials&op=modload&name=Gallery&file=index&include=view_photo.php"> alt=""
src="http://media.tentonhammer.com/vanguard/gallery/albums/album70/Vials.jpg"
style="border: 2px solid ;">

If your group is
strong and brave,
you can consider going after href="http://vanguard.tentonhammer.com/index.php?module=ContentExpress&func=display&ceid=801">Bai'Lu
the Harmonic at this point. Just behind the Pagoda Pool of
the
Silverfox is a mountain path that leads to a secluded section of the
Gardens. Another pagoda lies here, but it will not aid you on your
quest.

href="http://admin.vanguard.tentonhammer.com/modules.php?set_albumName=album70&id=Bai_LuEntrance&op=modload&name=Gallery&file=index&include=view_photo.php"> alt=""
src="http://media.tentonhammer.com/vanguard/gallery/albums/album70/Bai_LuEntrance.jpg"
style="border: 2px solid ;">

A few Yukiona and a Garden Dancer surround the pool. Bai'Lu the
Harmonic is to the right of the pool. An alert party can (and should)
clear the other mobs before engaging this named.

Whether or not, you hunt for Bai'Lu, you'll need to head down the hill
to the immediate left of the Pagoda Pool of the Silverfox to continue
your quest. Slay Silverfoxes and
be aware of the aggro plants nearby as you go. They hide in the ground
like
lumps of grass, but they spring up and attack when you draw near. At
least reapers can harvest them for cotton!

The lawn runs into a river and a bridge with a Red Lily or two nearby.
A pair of Tombo Darters are here. Kill them and step onto the bridge.
You'll have to kill another Yukiona, a Garden Dancer, and a plant
monster. Then you will find yourself looking at another garden wall
with golems. Kill them and move through.

You will find yourself on a little strip of land at the edge of the
water. This spot is crawling with mobs. To your right are some Tombos.
A killer plant is up to the left, and a Yukiona is pacing back and
forth. Look for another Red Lily here, too.

Kill the Yukiona and turn left. Follow the path and kill along the way.
It winds up a hill into a lawn full of Yukiona and Garden Dancers. A
few Red Lilies are here, too, along with the Pagoda Pool of the Tombo.
The Yukiona in this area are a little tougher. Some will
be level 14 or 15, and all will be 3dot. Clear the area and collect the
water sample.

Now return to the Pagoda Pool of the Silverfox and take the path to the
far left--down to the water. The path to the final pagoda lies through
this maze of rock and slush. The picture below shows the path from the
destination. You can see the Pagoda Pool of the Silverfox in the
picture. Just zigzag through the water until you come to the final area.

href="http://vanguard.tentonhammer.com/modules.php?set_albumName=album71&id=Path&op=modload&name=Gallery&file=index&include=view_photo.php"> alt=""
src="http://media.tentonhammer.com/vanguard/gallery/albums/album71/Path.jpg"
style="border: 2px solid ; width: 600px;">

Along the way, you'll
face a new
type of creature called the Nohebi. These serpentine monsters come in
three flavors: the warriors that simply melee, hunters that use ranged
attacks, and casters that use spells. All are level 14 or 15 3dot.

As you approach the third pagoda, there is a chance to encounter a
named version, Lung Sho'Lilang. This one is just a little tougher and
drops some random area loot table gear. Lung Sho'Lilang is a level 16
4dot foe.

href="http://vanguard.tentonhammer.com/modules.php?set_albumName=album71&id=Nohebi&op=modload&name=Gallery&file=index&include=view_photo.php"> alt=""
src="http://media.tentonhammer.com/vanguard/gallery/albums/album71/Nohebi.jpg"
style="border: 2px solid ;">

Some frog-like
creatures (level 14
and 15 3dot) roam the waters where the Nohebi don't. And you'll even
spot a few "islands" of grass with a stray Yukiona. These islands also
have a Red Lily for you to collect.

When you finally get to the end of the waterway, you will encounter
some tougher mobs. Guarding the path back onto dry land are a pair of
level 15 4dot Clay Sentinels. Like the others you've encountered, they
like to try to keep you in a stun lock. These just have a lot more hit
points and pack greater punches.

As soon as you kill them, you will likely bump into your first Yukiona
Spiritsibyl. This tougher version of the ones you have encountered
previously can heal and nuke. They are level 16 4dots.

If you can get beyond the Clay Sentinels and the roaming Spiritsibyl
you will be able to approach the first pool of water and fill the vial.
Any of the pools of water in this part of the Gardens will work, as
this whole area is the Pagoda Pool of the Matron.

href="http://vanguard.tentonhammer.com/modules.php?set_albumName=album71&id=ToughMobs&op=modload&name=Gallery&file=index&include=view_photo.php"> alt=""
src="http://media.tentonhammer.com/vanguard/gallery/albums/album71/ToughMobs.jpg"
style="border: 2px solid ;">

Activating the Amulet

Having just filled
your third
vial, Garden Waters is complete and you are in the place you need to be
to activate Gulkar's amulet. You'll need to climb this tower to the top:

style="text-decoration: underline;"> href="http://vanguard.tentonhammer.com/modules.php?full=1&set_albumName=album71&id=HighestPoint&op=modload&name=Gallery&file=index&include=view_photo.php"> alt=""
src="http://media.tentonhammer.com/vanguard/gallery/albums/album71/HighestPoint.jpg"
style="border: 2px solid ; width: 600px;">

From the first pagoda
in the area,
you can hug the mountain in the back and come up to the central tower.
Slay a couple of Clay Sentinels at the base of the stairs and start
climbing. Be careful when you are about to come to the top! A pair of
Clay Sentinels and the Yukiona Matron await you. The Matron is a level
16 4dot (pictured above with the golem and the Spiritsibyl) that heals
and nukes. Kill her if you want, but be sure to use the amulet to
complete your mission.

If you still need Red Lilies, a few grow in the area. You can also
retrace your steps and collect respawns.

Knowledge Gained

You'll never know
what the Red
Lilies teach Mekkra. The Warseer only comments that they seem to be
wilting much faster than expected and pays you for your trouble.

href="http://vanguard.tentonhammer.com/modules.php?set_albumName=album68&id=Complete&op=modload&name=Gallery&file=index&include=view_photo.php"> alt=""
src="http://media.tentonhammer.com/vanguard/gallery/albums/album68/Complete.jpg"
style="border: 2px solid ;">

Meanwhile, Warseer Gulkar tells you that you have done well and that he
hopes to see if the water is magically treated. Maybe he can even find
a way to reverse the magic. He pays you for collecting the samples.

href="http://admin.vanguard.tentonhammer.com/modules.php?set_albumName=album70&id=Complete&op=modload&name=Gallery&file=index&include=view_photo.php"> alt=""
src="http://media.tentonhammer.com/vanguard/gallery/albums/album70/Complete.jpg"
style="border: 2px solid ;">

Your test with the
amulet confirms
that there are indeed holes in the mystical barrier that separates the
Gardens from the lands of Clan Martok. Gulkar is not sure what has
caused it, but he is greatful for your research. He pays you some gold
and offers you a choice between two shoulder pieces.
