Oftentimes a rogue character has
their combat ability neglected with the goal of being a master of
finding traps, disarm traps, and opening locks. This is
completely understandable, and reasonable. However, rogues can
function in combat roles almost as well as a dedicated combat class,
and still be formidable in combat. The sniper is an example of a
rogue who maintains most of his or her trap disarming ability, while
still functioning in this role.
The sniper is a master of the killing shot. With high damage from
sneak attack, feats and enhancements, the sniper can kill opponents in
a few seconds in combat. Able to get close enough to make a sneak
attack, the sniper can take out key opponents in battle without getting
mauled once exposed.
In addition this this, the sniper is fair at spotting and disarming
traps, though not the best. The sniper has some ability to use
magical devices, mainly for low level wands and buffs, plus some
healing. Not a front line fighter, when an opponent approaches
for melee, the sniper is wise to back off and let more direct melee
allies step in. Future levels for a sniper should concentrate on
keeping rogue skills high as possible (and gaining more sneak attack),
and fighter levels for additional ranged combat feats.
