The Empire (Humans)

A race known for being at the forefront of most battles; the humans of the Empire maintain one of the most advanced armies of the old world. Armed with such technological advances as rifles, cannons and even steam powered tanks, the Empire fights a long battle against various different enemies, including; Skaven, Orcs, Dark Elves, Chaos, and more.

Official Information from EA Mythic

The greatest nation of men in the Old World, the Empire is composed of the human descendants of Sigmar, who united the tribes of men at the Battle of Black Fire Pass. Sigmar was deified after the battle and his promise of eternal aid to the kingdom of Dwarfs still stands today. This action solidified the relationship between men and Dwarfs and planted the seeds for the burgeoning Empire through trade. Today, the Empire is led by Emperor Karl Franz, who rules from his seat in the city-state of Altdorf.

The life of a citizen of the Empire is a perilous one, for there are foes within every shadow and enemies around every corner. Secret cults abound, or at the very least, there are rumors of them running rampant. No one is certain who is trustworthy, and fear and paranoia are omnipresent in the isolated settlements that dot the Empire's provinces.

As the Empire rots from within, it is constantly under assault from without. Chaos Marauders from the north frequently mount massive campaigns into the Empire, pillaging and destroying all that they can. In the Age of Reckoning, such a warhost has attacked the Empire's northern borders under the leadership of a powerful Champion. The timing of the invasion is particularly ill-fortuned, for the Empire is being ravaged by a mysterious plague that is transforming the populace into murderous fiends.

Faced with such desperate circumstances, Emperor Karl Franz has been forced to call upon the Dwarfs and High Elves for aid, lest his lands be transformed forever into a nightmarish domain of Chaos.

Current Information

The Age of Reckoning begins with a foul Chaos Plague being unleashed throughout the Empire of man. Weakened by the release of this plague; the Empire is only further demoralized by the appearance of a red eclipse in the sky. With its people driven into a panic, the Empire hears news that the Dwarf city of Karak Eight Peaks has fallen to the Orcs, and a great army of chaos masses to the north. As a sign of relief to the dire portents that have befallen the Empire of man, the High Elves appear to lend what assistance they can, however even the Emperor knows his forces are being stretched dangerously thin.

Recognizing that the only way to counter the threats arrayed against them will be to combine their strengths, the leaders of the Empire and the nations of the Dwarfs and the High Elves convene a great Council of Wisdom in the Imperial capital of Altdorf. At this summit, the three rulers forge a pact that their peoples shall fight as one and strike back at the enemies who would conquer their homelands.

Careers

Warrior Priest

If you like Sigmar and fine killing times; the Warrior Priest is for you.  Probably the closest Warhammer equivalent to the Paladin, the Warrior Priest is a holy fighter of the Empire god Sigmar.  With intolerance for any weak creature such as Skaven, Orcs, or the foul monsters of Chaos, the Warrior Priest beats them to a pulp with whatever weapon is at hand (usually something blunt).

Bright Wizard

If I know one thing about Warhammer Bright wizards it’s that we can expect burning.  Lots of burning.  The Bright Wizards are known far and wide for their ability to set fires and burn things in multiple different ways, and it seems that in Warhammer Online they will be no different.

Knight of the Blazing Sun

If you want to be an armored tank, then this career is for you!  Meant to be the typical “Knights in Shining Armor” of the Empire, the Knights of the Blazing Sun are decked out in heavy armor and go around beating things with their sword.

Witch Hunter

Described by Mythic as “the coolest class we’re ever going to do!”, the Witch Hunter is the sneakier of the Empire careers.  Armed with sword and flintlock, the Witch Hunter spends his time skulking about the shadows of the empire hunting those who could be heretics, infiltrators, or worse!

Locations

Altdorf

The great city of Altdorf is, in many ways, the heart of the Empire.  The seat of the Emperor himself, Karl Franz, lies here in Altdorf within his grand, towering palace overlooking the vast city.

Capital

Reikland

The Reikland is the westernmost of the Great Provinces, and its fertile farmland, vineyards and dairy fields are among the most bountiful in all the Empire. The Grey Mountains that dominate the southwestern reaches of the province are rich in ores, marble and gems and the Reikwald Forest

Tier 4

Talabecland

Sitting between Reikland and Ostland, Talabecland is a location under siege by the forces of Chaos. With Knights Griffon defending them, the people of Talabecland are readying themselves against a massive Chaos Warhost that is on the march.

Tier 3

Ostland

As a land dominated by forests, Ostland is somewhere to expect foul things to come out at night. Beastmen live in the woods, and even fouler things are moving in from the Northlands of the Chaos Wastes, but still the men and women of the Empire defend their lands.

Tier 2

Nordland

As the “newb” zone for the Empire there is a lot of things going on in Nordland.  Hampered by the continual raids of Chaos forces, the men of this northern Empire settlement are constantly on guard and likely the players will have to be as well.

Tier 1

Views on Allies:

Elves - The alliance between Elves and Men started centuries ago, when the High Elves allied with the men of the Empire in the war against Chaos. With the assistance of the Elven mage Techlis; the Empire was able to successfully defeat the great Chaos army that had assaulted the northern country of Kislev. To solidify their alliance, Techlis assisted in the creation of the Schools of Magic, an institute intent on assisting the wizards of the Empire. Currently the Empire and the High Elves are on good terms, even though the humans still view the Elves as being arrogant.

Dwarves - It was with the assistance of the Dwarves that the man-god of the Empire; Sigmar was able to defeat the savage hordes of Orcs that controlled large portions of the Old World. Since the time of Sigmar, Men and Dwarves have been stoic allies in the fight against the Greenskins, Chaos and any other threat to their mutual borders. It was said by Sigmar during the creation of the Empire, that men should never decline aid to a Dwarf in need.

Views on Enemies:

Chaos - It was with the assistance of the High Elves, that the Empire was able to halt the advance of Chaos in the first great war. Led by Magnus the Pious, the Empire held back the daemonic hordes of Chaos, and kept order in the Old World. As it stands, the Empire views Chaos as one of (if not) their greatest enemies in the known world.

Orcs & Goblins- Since the times of Sigmar, the Empire has been engaged in a long and seemingly endless war with the hordes of the Orcs and goblins. As the Orcs continue to burn and pillage the lands of the Empire, the Empire is just as keen in engaging Orc warbands and destroying the greenskins wherever they can be found.

Dark Elves - While one would think that there is little interaction between the Empire and the Dark Elves, as they are separated by the sea, this is farther from the truth then any would care to admit. Using their dreaded Black Arks, the Dark Elf corsair raiders continue to plague the coastal settlements of the Empire, coming for slaves and potential sacrifices to their dark god Khaine. It is because of the raids against them that the Empire hold the Dark Elves in such low standings, and seek to destroy them whenever possible.
