I have the Expansion! What now?

So you finally secured your expansion pack, and are wondering what you must do in order to get into the action and begin your leveling once more, or maybe even create your Death Knight. First of all, you must know that you have to enable your CD-Key (located inside your DVD Jewel Case), and head on over to Blizzard's Official Account Update Site.

After you have entered your Account Name, Password and Key, you will have enabled your account for Wrath of the Lich King! Now the fun starts...

Bring out your DVD and toss it into your drive. You will be prompted to install Wrath of the Lich King. Go grab a glass of water (or coffee), and leave it running. Within 10 minutes, you will be able to launch your client, and head right into Northrend!

So many places, so little time

Wrath of the Lich King is upon us. In just a few hours of this post, thousands of people will flock to Northrend and resume their leveling routines in the icy plains. Whether you pick Borean Tundra or Howling Fjord, and how you go about being in Northrend relies entirely on the player - in this guide, we will cover the advantages and disadvantages of both areas, as well as an ideal way of going about the new expansion's starter areas.

Utgarde Keep, your first Instance in Northrend

Howling Fjord or Borean Tundra?

A lot of people ask me if they should head over to the Fjord, or just go to the Tundra for the first few levels over 70. My answer is simple, there are no best or worst places to be, both have level 69-71 monsters as targets for the first few quests, and both will undoubtedly advance you in level. Now, let's go into specifics on why you would like to go to either area best.

Howling Fjord ~ Alliance Tinted Zone

The Howling Fjord is home to the first dungeon either of the Factions will want to visit, named Utgarde Keep. You may view Messiah's awesome writeup on the quick zone by clicking here. If you are traveling with friends, or are hoping to see some instanced content right away, starting in the Fjord may not be such a bad idea - the instance is right around the corner for your first Northrend loot!

For Alliance, you may get here by going to Menethil Harbor and taking a boat to Valgarde, for Horde, you will need to board the Zeppelin from Undercity to reach New Agamand. There's a lot of Vrykul in the zone as well as some inter-faction hostilities, and it's overall a good place to start up in.

Borean Tundra ~ Horde Tinted Zone

Why did I mention Horde in the Borean Tundra? Easy! the Warsong Offensive has its first settlement here, meaning you get to see badasses like Saurfang and Garrosh Hellscream in the Warsong Hold, and help them drive back both scourge and enemies nearby while settling into Northrend.

This zone has a level 71-73 dungeon called The Nexus, but you should delay your visit here until you've gained atleast a couple of levels in order to be up to the challenge this dungeon brings.

In here, you see a bit more variety as Horde, as you befriend some Murloc clans, see the Druid Animal Preservation Society (DEHTA), and learn more about the Scourge's commanders.

If you're Horde, you will be arriving almost directly into the Warsong Hold, if you're Alliance, Valiance Keep will be in this place - founded by the Captain from Warcraft III!

It's worthy of note that along with Storm Peaks, The Borean Tundra is one of the largest zones in Northrend, filled to the brim with quests beyond any other!

To get here as Horde and begin your leveling, simply take the Zeppelin from the Western Tower in Orgrimmar. If you're Alliance, use Stormwind's new Harbor in order to get here.
