Welcome to the 1,368th edition of Loading...
Even as we’re on the verge of diving headlong into a holiday weekend, there’s been ten tons of major MMOG news to absorb from the past week. A major MMOG launch, beta floodgates bursting open and a sneak peak at what we have in store for premium members this weekend are all discussed in today’s Loading… The Rabid Level 80 Grizzly Bear of Doom.
You vote with what you view at Ten Ton Hammer, and the result is the Ten Ton Pulse (What is The Pulse?).
Today's top 5 Pulse results this week:
Biggest movers today:
Somehow the midway point of 2010 crept right on by and July is breathing in our face like a rabid level 80 grizzly bear of doom. As luck would have it though, it appears that a brave group of raiders have slain and skinned said grizzly which dropped one whopper of a reward. I'm speaking of course about the Cataclysm beta which officially kicked off this week. It's still far too early to tell if this will be one of those bad betas that Shayalyn discussed in Loading… earlier this week, but according to Cyrak over on our World of Warcraft community site, “The official forums are already being flooded with players discontent with out of context abilities or talents that they think will be overpowered and such.”
You've gotta love how quickly the vocal minority can pounce on the most minute detail of a work in progress and cry foul long before they've ever gotten the chance to step back and take a look at the bigger picture. Thankfully, I'm sure that there's a sizable pile of other participants who are beyond elated to have gotten into the beta just in time for a long holiday weekend.
Speaking of the nuttiness of long holiday weekends please be advised that Loading… will be having a cookout with its relatives this coming Monday. Fret not though - just like the Million Dollar Man it will return better, faster, and stronger than ever on Tuesday! In the meantime, Ten Ton Hammer premium members get a double dose of awesome this weekend:
in the warm glow of our exclusive July

the first to gaze upon the glory that is Ten Ton Hammer's
E3 2010 awards!
After many hours of deliberation in an undisclosed, secure location, Team Hammer is finally ready to unveil the winners of this year's highly coveted E3 awards. Premium members will be among the first to discover which games made the final cut this weekend.
“But Sardu, what do I do this weekend if I’m not a Ten Ton Hammer premium member or haven’t gotten into the Cataclysm beta?”
I’m glad you asked! First up, we have all the details on what premium membership entails right here, so be sure to check it out. Today also marks the official European release for All Points Bulletin, the newest kid on the MMOG block. If you haven't had the opportunity to play it as of yet, I thoroughly suggest you take it for a spin around your hard drive.
The gameplay in APB is an interesting combination of controlled chaos and character customization bliss. On the latter part, I didn't think it would be possible, but Realtime Worlds has managed to surpass the high water mark for customization options set by Cryptic which was no easy feat. Just about everything your character utilizes in the game can be custom tailored to suit your personal style – clothing, cars, music and even the symbols you tag buildings with can all be messed around with.
Resident rockstar Mattlow has penned a pair of must-read guides for APB beginners if you're thinking of taking the San Paro plunge: APB for Dummies/ 10 Tips & Tricks to Help Get You Started and APB: Spotlight on the Symbol Designer.
That about wraps things up for this week, but I'd love to hear what your gaming plans are for the long holiday weekend. Are any or all of the above items on your radar, or are you more likely to be firing up the grill and piles of fireworks instead? Flap your arms like there's no tomorrow and fly on over to the Loading… forum and let us know!
