This hear saw many games abandon the split screen functionality that fans of the couch gaming experience rely on. Most notably, Halo 5 was the first in the long line of Halo titles to remove split screen, even though that was one of the main bullet points the game had going for it. Luckily, not all developers feel the need to go all full screen all the time as Studio Wildcard cofounder Jesse Rapczak explained in an interview with Gamespot.
Many developers are abandoning split-screen local play, but we couldn't stomach that for Ark!...Friends and families can look forward to working together to survive the environment, tame its inhabitants and unravel the mysteries of the island--all from the same couch
Unfortunately split screen wont be immediately, but will be added as a new feature in early 2016 exclusively for the Xbox One version of the game.
