I missed this video earlier this week, but sat watching it this morning with giddy excitement. For anyone who doesn’t know, Camelot Unchained is going to use a system where players can build their abilities instead of having them given to them by the game. What this means is that there will be a series of Components that you can mix and match in order to create a skill. In the video and the first demonstration of the system that I’ve seen, Ben Pielstick shows how to go about using Components to create a healing skill.

What’s so exciting about this system is its flexibility but also the variety that players will eventually create. Whether you want a Healing Spring or Healing Dart, the basics are already exiting and clearly working well. Best of all, this video only shows with basic Components, before any others are added to the game. I suspect that if City State Entertainment do manage to pull it off, Camelot Unchained’s skill system could be one that you play and fall in love with and from that day forward, you’d never be able to play a typical MMO again.

I can’t wait to see more.
