Changes are afoot in Dota Underlords when it comes to Ranked mode, and ranking up. Points will be awarded and lost for where you finish, you'll no longer be able to queue with friends in Ranked, and your current rank will determine who you're matched up against. It seems many players aren't happy with this change: they want to be able to increase their rank, while playing with friends. I'm not entirely sure how I feel about that, as it does feel somewhat open to abuse. At the same time, Dota Underlords is more fun when playing with a friend. The main changes include:

In Casual:

  • You will be matched against opponents of your same skill level.
  • You can queue up solo or with friends.
  • This is where you experiment with new builds, or complete those elusive challenges.
  • Daily Challenges and Achievements can be earned.

In Ranked:

  • You can only queue up solo, and your Rank (Enforcer I, Upstart III, etc) is used to find opponents.
  • New players will need to unlock ranked mode by playing 5 casual games. (Don't worry, accounts with at least one Multiplayer game will be grandfathered in.)
  • Daily Challenges and Achievements can be earned.

Valve have also revealed how achieving a rank will simply be a matter of reaching a point milestone. The highest will require 7600, with a #1 finish granting 100 points: it'll be quite the grind. Full details here.
