Almost 14 years ago, Sony Online Entertainment and Verant Interactive launched a new little MMORPG called EverQuest. While it wasn’t the first MMORPG on the market, it quickly became the most popular, expanding the genre’s playerbase and paving the way for the behemoth known as WoW and the creation of countless others.

Next month is the 14th anniversary of EverQuest and this week Producer Thom Terrazas posted a new missive to share his plans for the anniversary celebration with fans. The March update for EverQuest will bring new anniversary events, the addition of new player-designed missions, new tradeskill recipes for Hero’s Forge Armor, and new Epic Quest Ornamentations for anyone that has finished their 1.0, 1.5, or 2.0 Epic Quests.

A little further out, Terrazas announced plans improve the Hero’s Forge and expand on the Rain of Fear expansion from last year with the launch of the Shadows of Fear update in April.

Last year, we launched the Rain of Fear expansion (EverQuest's 19th Expansion) and in April, we will be continuing the Rain of Fear story with the Shadows of Fear Game Update. Shadows of Fear will be available to everyone that has purchased the Rain of Fear expansion. It will include some new zones while introducing some new storylines of godly proportion and you will have some Spell and AA lines that you haven't had before. Stay tuned for a Beta Announcement in March. You were signed up for Beta for the Rain of Fear, then you will be invited to come back and we'll have a small window to invite some of you that missed it last year.

Lastly, Terrazas announced a few changes to the EverQuest development team with Jonathan Caraker now heading up as lead designer and Akil “Lyndro” Hooper taking over as creative director. Julie "Ellyra" Burness and Doug "Elidroth" Cronkhite move into the positions of assistant lead designers.
