Three former Sony Online Entertainment developers have walked away from big company game development and have founded their own small studio, territory that at least two of the trio's members have been in before.

Matt Wilson and John Smith are both SOE Seattle devs who had been founding members of the FireAntGames studio. FireAntGames had been acquired by SOE and renamed SOE Seattle and assigned the development of upcoming spy MMOG The Agency. GameSpot reports that the formation of the new Detonator Games studio hasn't stopped the progress of The Agency.

When asked how the departure of the Detonator crew has affected The Agency, an SOE rep told GameSpot, "As it relates to The Agency, the team in Seattle is still working diligently on this project and we're looking forward to showing you new content in the future!"

Are small independent studios the future or will these low budget, high hopes studios get swallowed by the big fish in the gaming sea? Share your thoughts by clicking the "Post your comments" link below!
