Last week the Hearthstone devs squashed 187 bugs and destroyed two boxes of donuts in their crunch time push to hit milestones for the upcoming beta launch. When the game was revealed at PAX East earlier this year, the devs vowed to hit closed beta before the end of summer, and if things keep going as they are, they should hit that target.

So when will the beta begin you ask? The closest answer that you’ll get for now is in the latest update and is little more than a narrowing window:

“We’re making good progress, and while we definitely won’t fix every bug before releasing the beta, we do think it’s important to address any issues that would pull focus away from the core game experience. What that means is that we’re not days away from launching the beta, but we’re not months away either. At the Hearthstone announcement we committed to going into beta testing before the summer was over, and the team has been pulling out all the stops to make that happen.”

The in-game store will be available for purchases throughout the beta, and Blizzard will be compensating testers that aid in the testing of the system with a special token that will give a golden version of Gelbin Mekkatorque. Players will be able to acquire a regular version of Gelbin Mekkatorque after beta, but the gold version will only be available from the token.

The closed beta will initially launch as a slow rollout in North America with localized versions for Europe, Korea, and Taiwan to follow shortly after. You can sign up to get your name in the potential beta tester pool on the Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft website.
